To say I have been temporarily away would be an understatement. From a look at the last time that I had posted I have been away just under 2 years. So, what I have been up to, you ask? Well, in the time since I wrote that last post, I was pretty consumed with work. In fact, I became a workaholic and the most disappointing part of realizing you became a workaholic is that you do it at the expense of things that bring you joy in life. I let go of running, eating healthy, exploring the city and really just sort of lost my way somewhere. So, I return to the drawing board in search of my "happy place" and to draw on some self-motivation through some online therapy: blogging.
For the most part, I suppose that a lot has changed in 2 years. For one, I am 2 years older which means my back has begun hurting on occasion. This is actually a new phenomenon in my life, I don't particularly enjoy it since it serves as a reminder of my declining youth but am glad that I still look the part of a 24 year old. Another change has been that in my absence from a active healthy lifestyle I seem to have found a few extra pounds. I should note that while I am not exactly happy at the end result, the journey via pastries and french fries was absolutely delicious. The number of times I "shame ate" a box of mac n' cheese or ate ice cream for dinner would make any 12 year old envious, and any clean eater cringe. But I will man-up and own my delicious mistakes for what they truly are: a mistake.
I suppose this post is to put into writing that I have every intention to pick this blog up again and do my best to get more stuff about me and my journey up here and share out whatever I find works for me and what I've read works for others. I am a crazy researcher so even if I don't feel like something works for me, I will post some info from other places who love it just so everyone gets a different perspective.
For those who will see this and think this is a crazy nutrition blog or exercise blog: this is NOT that, it's actually far from it. I do not follow any fitness fad, I'm not vegan/vegetarian/gluten free/dairy free/clean eater/macro counter/carb or fat avoider. I simply eat until I am full and try to eat as many vegetables as I can. Unless its a special day where I will eat my own weight in cheeseburgers/pizza/cinnabon; but I am trying to limit those days since they turned from "special days" to "everyday". Also, in terms of exercise, I like to run but I also acknowledge that I need to incorporate other exercise into my life. This includes weight lifting as I have a tendency to injure myself by over training with distance and not compensating with resistance training.
All this being said, I set 5 major life goals for 2014 because 2013 was actually a pretty rough year for me. The first two were work and location related: I wanted to move back to downtown Toronto and I needed to switch jobs. So I spent the first 3 months of 2014 trying to accomplish those. My next goal is to get back on track with my health, and that is what I am trying to do here!
So, here I am on a Friday night sitting in front of my laptop re-introducing myself to the world on this page and hopefully this is the beginning of a beautiful second round at this blog!
